The RXR/TIAA-CREF Long Island Marathon: Festival of Races:
The Long Island Marathon, formally known as the RXR/TIAA-CREF Long Island Marathon: Festival of Races, kicks off each May, with exciting races for runners of varying ages and skill levels.
It all started in the early 1970s with the "Earth Day Marathon," where Long Island runners raced for 26.2 miles within Eisenhower Park. Later renamed the "Long Island Marathon," the competition added the Half Marathon in 1984.
These earlier races eventually became the RXR/TIAA-CREF Long Island Marathon: Festival of Races, and today's competitions include a marathon, half marathon, 10K race, 5K race, 10-mile run and KidzFunRun.

In its 39th year, the RXR/TIAA-CREF Long Island Marathon: Festival of Races takes place on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, 2011. These exciting races give Long Island area residents the opportunity to compete in different levels of athletic skills.
