The Overwhelming Responsibility of Online Social Networks to Get It Right and Do No Harm

Social engineering is nothing new, and the stakes are high for those who wish to change the rules of the game and remake society in their eye's own image.
Are they to be considered the "Unreasonable Man" or unreasonable men in this case, you know the powers that be.
They, the "great they" well, they seem to have an agenda.
Anyway, before I start this fine little article realize I am speaking from the perspective of an observer, someone who has watched decade after decade as the ebb and flow repeats.
Okay so, let's talk shall we? Today we have social online networks, they have so much power, and it would naïve to think that these social networks and those who control them would not wield that power for something other than just profits.
You see, such ominous power is a corrupter of mankind, and unless their vision of the future of human societies matches yours, you could be in for a real game changer, one which could actually have you believing that it was your idea for that very coming change.
About 50-years ago in 1963 there was an interesting paper published in and Oxford Journal "Public Opinion Quarterly" titled; " Mass Communication Research: An Old Road Resurveyed," by Joseph T.
Klapper.
Stumbling across this paper was a humbling experience as our think tank has been discussing the challenges with Online Social Networks and their insane growth in recent years.
Interestingly enough this paper's abstract states; "Mass communication has many ramifications and so, too, do the research studies that seek a better understanding of its characteristics and its place in our society.
Here it comes under the scrutiny of an old hand at critical surveys of mass communication research, himself a discerning researcher.
" We can no longer simply trust those in control of the information to remain ethical, indeed we never could, but somehow so many Internet users have adopted a false sense of trust in this new venue, and it is up to each and every user an individual to understand there is at least some inherent brainwashing going on, along with some attempts at mass social engineering.
Perhaps it might even be more challenging if there weren't.
Some control is needed just as society needs to be organized and the rules standardized to maintain the peace.
Nevertheless the boundary of stepping onto individual freedom of the mind through mass manipulation of society is a scary thought.
If we let the blob of social networks ebb and flow it will only coalesce into a repeat of past periods of history.
That will not be good for any of us, especially when the true history has been hidden from view due to the very controls of information that I've discussed herein.
I hope you will spend some time today and consider this at a much deeper level.
