Commenting about the Terracotta Warriors, Brian reports, "One of the reasons that the majority of the warrior remains are still kept under the ground (more than 6,000) is the fact the originally the warriors were painted and as soon as the 2,000 year old paint is exposed to the atmosphere, it powers. This is the effect of oxidization. New German research is coming up with new polymers that will allow the fragments to be unearthed, preserved, tagged and then the pieces re-assembled. Putting together the pieces of each warrior is like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle. Almost all the statues were smashed. The efforts by the team of restorers, is astonishing. Some figures can take longer than a month to re-assemble. Once they are reassembled, the restored pieces are then put back in the pit in their original position. One day we look forward to being able to view the Terracotta Warriors in full color."
The Terracotta Warriors were first discovered by four brothers in 1974. You'll meet one of them in the Book. The site that the TCW were found is near the Chinese city of Xian. Xian was the fist capital of China and the base of the first Emperor of China, Qin Shihuang.
