Spring is finally here, update your home’s mantel or dining room table with this easy spring floral topiary centerpiece that is perfect for Easter.

What You Will Need:
  • Small pot
  • Block of floral foam
  • 4-6” foam ball
  • A wooden dowel
  • Craft moss (Spanish moss or sheet moss)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Several artificial hydrangeas stems (or your choice of flower type)
  • Craft knife
  • Shears or pliers
  • Pencil
  • Glue gun and hot glue sticks (optional)

How To Make A Spring Floral Topiary:
    1. Cut the stems on your fake flowers using shears so that they are only two inches long. Use caution when cutting the steam as there will most likely be a wire within the stem so you do not cut your hand.
    2. Stick the shortened floral stems into the foam ball, evenly spacing the flowers so that all of the ball is covered. Flowers like artificial work well as they cover a large area so you need less of them, but any fake flower could work. For extra security you can add a bit of hot glue around the stem and the foam ball to help keep the flowers in place, in particular for the flowers that will be on the underneath part of the topiary.
    3. Take your wooden dowel and paint it using acrylic paint and a paint brush. For a more traditional look pick a natural plant color for your paint that will look like bark or a stem so browns and greens work best. If you would like something more bold, try using one of the colors in the flowers, or the color of the pot. Allow the paint to dry.

    1. Put the base of the pot onto the floral foam and trace the base of the pot with a pencil. Using your craft knife cut out a piece of floral foam that will fit within the pot. Once cut put the piece of floral foam within the pot, the foam should be slightly lower than the top of the pot so it is hidden. The piece of foam needs to be securely fitted within the pot so that your topiary does not move around, so either fill the rest of the pot with extra small pieces of floral foam in any of the open gaps, or hot glue the foam to the base of the pot.
    2. Cut a piece of moss and use it to cover the top of the floral foam in the pot. Push down so that the moss is tucked within the pot, if you wish you can put a bit of hot glue to keep the moss in place.
    3. Take the wooden dowel and carefully stick it into the foam ball that is covered with flowers. Use caution not to stick the dowel all the way through the foam ball. Next take the other end of the wooden dowel and place it into the floral foam within the pot.

    Tips:
    • If you do not use hot glue to secure the flowers to the foam ball you can easily switch the flowers depending on the season, such as using bright red Poinsettias in the winter.
    • If you would like to use a variety of artificial flowers try looking for mixed flower bunches.
