How to Build a Southern Style Plantation Bird House
- 1). Cut out five pieces of plywood using a hand saw. The plywood should be thin, no more than half an inch thick. Each of the five pieces should be about six inches by six inches, which will make a nice size for the small birds native to the south.
- 2). Sand each of the plywood pieces with sand paper. Make sure to remove any rough spots or debris. Also sand the edges of the wood to make sure they are smooth.
- 3). Nail the five wood pieces together to make a box. The front of the box will be an open space, with the five pieces of wood making three walls, the floor and the ceiling.
- 4). Hammer one nail into the ceiling of the box and tie a long piece of twine to the nail. Hang the box from a tree using the twine, and place a peanut butter covered pine cone, seeds and nuts inside the box. These food items are tempting to small southern birds like the flycatcher, blue bird and bill horn.
