Underground Dog Fence Instructions
- 1). Decide on your fence line. This should incorporate the entire area that you want fenced; re-laying the wire after you have already installed it will be difficult. Measure the area and record your measurements to ensure that you buy a kit with enough wiring included.
- 2). Do research through your utility company. Compare your planned fence line to any utility wires in the area, and change your plan as necessary so that your wires do not interfere with those of the utility company.
- 3). Purchase your electronic dog fence kit, which is available from pet stores and online retailers in a variety of sizes. Buy one that includes the amount of wire you need, along with connectors, a safety and instruction manual and a corresponding collar for your dog.
- 4). Lay out your fence line. Use the chalk line to mark the edges of the area and the flags to mark the corners.
- 5). Unpack your electric wire and lay it along your chalk line. You should be able to use one continuous piece of wire for the entire enclosure. If you cannot, follow the instructions that came with your kit to connect wires. Follow the instructions that came with the kit to connect the wire to the power source and check its function. Once you have checked the wire, disconnect it again.
- 6). Dig a ditch that is one to six inches deep for your wire, following manufacturer directions (different brands require different depths). Lay the wire in the ditch, curving it rather than bending it at the corners. Do not stretch the wire too tightly, because this could damage the system. Reconnect to the wire to the power source and bury it.
