Okay, you been to your doctor once and are on your way back to get your total cholesterol LDL HDL readings.
Upon arriving you are ushered in to the room that looks like it could be reserved for prisoners in the county jail.
Shortly afterwards your doctor arrives to present the long awaited total cholesterol LDL HDL numbers.
From the look on her face you know they aren't all that good.
She starts to talk about the risk of heart attack and stroke when your numbers are out of the healthy range.
She also mentions that your dad had his first heart attack when he was in his early fifties, and the fact that you are constantly under stress at your job puts you at serious risk of a coronary event.
In other words, the message is that you are a high risk candidate for heart disease and reducing total cholesterol LDL and HDL should be a top priority.
The next step was to reveal the numbers.
Your total cholesterol was 290, your LDL or bad cholesterol was 170, and your beneficial good cholesterol or HDL was 39.
While not being an expert on cholesterol you has read enough to know that these are terrible numbers.
You also remember hearing that in order to be in a healthy range your total cholesterol number should be around 200 mg/dl.
What you didn't see coming was your doctor suggesting that you drop your total cholesterol down to 170 and your LDL below 100.
She pointed out that you are in the high risk category for a coronary event with your family history and job related stress and some changes will need to be made.
Her first suggestions were to reduce your stress, maybe by taking a yoga class.
Her next suggestions has to do with diet modifications, including avoiding all fried foods and reducing saturated fat intake to 10 percent or less a day.
No more spam, canned chili, airport hot dogs, or high fat marbled meats.
In fact your meat serving size should be a four ounce serving of either lean beef, skin less chicken or turkey, or cold water fatty fish.
You tell your physician that you are a meat and potato kind of guy and a three or four ounce serving just won't do.
She gives you the ultimatum to either try her diet suggestions, along with stress reduction, or she will be forced to place you on one of the statin cholesterol lowering medications she often prescribes.
In summary, maintaining total cholesterol HDL LDL readings are an important part of overall health, and often people simply don't have the willpower to lower and maintain total cholesterol HDL LDL in a healthy range.
For these individuals some form of extra help is needed.
One option that many natural health minded individuals are finding to be helpful is that of all natural cholesterol reduction supplements.
These formulas contain ingredients known to lower bad cholesterol (LDL), raise good cholesterol (HDL), and reduce total cholesterol.
Sounds like a safe and effective option worth learning more about; wouldn't you say?
