Pancreatic cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the pancreas.
This type of cancer accounts to about 2 percent of all cancers, and yet it is one of the most lethal ones.
It has a very poor prognosis and almost all of the patients who are suffering from pancreatic cancer die.
There are a lot of risk factors for pancreatic cancer.
Some of these are cigarette smoking, exposure to industrial chemicals or environment toxins, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes mellitus, obesity and eating a high fat diet.
Pancreatic cancer develops slowly, and when it is diagnosed early, then prompt treatment will be given which will lessen the likelihood of death.
Presented here are some symptoms that you should look out for.
One very conspicuous symptom is jaundice.
This is the yellowing of the skin and eyes, which is a result of increased bilirubin level in the blood.
This happens when a tumor blocks the bile ducts, whether partially or completely.
This will slow down the flow of bile, which then results to jaundice.
Abdominal pain is the most common symptom.
This usually occurs on the hypogastric region, on the upper abdomen, and it may be felt also at the back.
The pain is worse when you lie down just after eating.
One characteristic sign of this is that the pain worsens 3 to 4 hours after eating.
The pain is usually accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
Although these do not point to cancer, these are still symptoms that should be watched out for.
However, these symptoms sometimes delay the diagnosis since there are a lot of conditions that also manifest these ones.
Another one of the pancreatic cancer symptoms is weight loss that is not intentional.
This is one of the first symptoms that you experience together with abdominal pain.
This is accompanied by loss of appetite, which may lead to the unintended weight loss.
However, loss of appetite is also present in many other diseases, therefore it may not be a characteristic symptom of pancreatic cancer.
When you have this type of cancer, you may have a sudden onset of diabetes which is totally unexpected especially if you do not have any genes for this and you have been careful with your diet.
Pancreatic cancer inhibits the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin which will result to diabetes.
You may also experience changes in the color of your stool and urine.
The urine of a person with pancreatic cancer usually becomes darker.
Meanwhile, the stool becomes pale in color, with a strong smell.
These may also be because of the bile flow within the body.
Once you experience these pancreatic cancer symptoms, then it is best to have yourself checked so that your condition will be addressed to promptly.
These diseases need immediate treatment, without delay to ensure that you will be treated.
Even if it develops slow, the cancer is usually untreatable if it is at the third and fourth stage already.
