Everyone deserves a vacation from work now and then, and no one works harder than the men and women who serve our country in the Armed Forces.
It's only natural, then, that they often qualify for military vacation discounts when they travel.
Military members and their dependents often qualify for great deals on all aspects of travel.
It's important to do your research on these deals in order to maximize your vacation budget.
The most important tip for finding deals and discounts as a military member is to always ask if an establishment offers a military discount.
It doesn't hurt anyone and you might be surprised at how often you hear "yes!" Common places to seek a military discount while traveling are at hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
Sometimes the discount will be a set amount off your total cost.
Other times, these establishments will offer a percentage off your total bill.
Sometimes businesses will give out freebies to military members.
For instance, Busch Gardens and its affiliated theme parks allow military members and up to three of their direct dependents to have one free admission a year.
No matter which way you save, the savings can really add up if you always remember to ask for a military discount! Sometimes businesses offer military vacation discounts at specific times.
For instance, a restaurant might have 'Military Appreciation Day' on a specific day of the week where they offer a discount off your meal.
Other establishments might have specific days of the year that are designated as 'Military Appreciation Day.
' Cruise lines and vacation tour companies are another good place to seek out a military discount.
Depending on the company, these discounts may be offered at specific times of the year, or year round.
Military vacation discounts don't have to be limited to commercial businesses.
A great way to save money as a military member is to stay on base whenever possible.
Military bases always have comfortable and well-equipped temporary lodging facilities that are available to anyone with a valid military ID.
These lodgings are always very affordable, and they often include a full working kitchen, so you can save money by cooking meals instead of eating out.
You can stay in visitor's quarters on any base if you have a military affiliation, even if it is not to that particular branch of the military.
Bases often have low costs entertainment facilities as well, such as bowling alleys, swimming pools, and movie theaters.
By using the facilities on base for some of your vacation entertainment, you can save a bundle! No matter where your vacation takes you, if you are a military member, you've got plenty of opportunities to save money.
Doing a little research prior to your trip, and being assertive about seeking out military deals and promotions, can add up to big savings on your next trip.
