Connecticut Casinos
Don't worry, driving isn't that bad, unless you are in a car.
Actually, driving isn't that bad when compared to neighboring New York City, or Boston. And once you are there, all roads lead to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods casinos (not really, but it seems that way). And, if you don't think it's possible for two casinos to have that many slot machines, consider that Mohegan Sun has 5,500 all by it self, and it's smaller than Foxwoods!
Residents and visitors to the area have been gambling at Connecticut's casinos for over 20 years now, and don't mind a little cold weather, which dips to the teens and twenties in January and February. Inside, everything is cozy, and successful for the casinos. Since Foxwoods opened in 1992 the casino and the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Tribe has contributed over 3.5 billion to the state in gaming taxes. The minimum age for casino gambling in Connecticut is 21, although 18 year olds may play bingo, the lottery, or wager on dog races at Shoreline Star Greyhound Park in Bridgeport.
Ledyard - Mashantucket
Foxwoods Resort Casino was located in Ledyard, CT until the tribe annexed the land and changed the name to Mashantucket. Now the resort is located at 350 Trolley Line Boulevard,Mashantucket, Connecticut 06338 (800-369-9663). The entire resort covers 4,700,000 square feet and the casino is the second largest in the United States (Win Star in Oklahoma is the largest). The resort is about 50 minutes from Hartford, CT in the south-east corner of the state.
Foxwoods has 2,266 hotel rooms and includes a spa, health club, many restaurants, bars, lounges, multiple showrooms, nightclubs, and shopping. There is also golf, bowling, a museum, and a two-story arcade for the kids with over 100 machines and a large ticket redemption center and snack bar.
The casino is actually six casinos with everything you could ever want in gaming. There is a full racebook with simulcast racing, bingo, and keno. For poker players, Foxwoods has a world-class poker room and hosts mayor tournaments. The Foxwoods WPT World Poker Room is the largest poker room on the East Coast with 104 tables. The room features Omaha, 7-stud, and more Texas Hold'em tables than any casino in Nevada.
Slot players will be in heaven with 6,300 machines to choose from. Sex and the City, Michael Jackson, and Batman slots are available along with thousands of others. Video poker is also well represented. Penny machines to $100 per coin are available.
Foxwoods also has over 350 table games, with favorites like blackjack, craps, roulette, Three-Card Poker, and of course baccarat and even Sic Bo. In fact, there are 17 different games offered. Each casino area also has several food choices from fine dining to snack bars for burgers and fries.
MGM at Foxwoods
MGM at Foxwoods is an expansion that opened in May of 2008. Although it is a separate building, it is connected by a moving walkway which is very handy because Foxwoods is huge. The MGM has 825 hotel rooms, four restaurants, and several shopping choices. The casino offers 53 table games and 1,400 slot machines, which are counted in the Foxwoods totals.
Uncasville
Mohegan Sun casino is located at 1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard, Uncasville, Connecticut 06382-1355 (800-862-8000). The resort is about 20 minutes away from Foxwoods, across the Thames River. Like Foxwoods, it is a Native American casino with a large hotel and resort complex. The hotel has 1,200 rooms and offers golf, a spa and health center, and a very large Kids Quest complex for families with children. There are also more than two-dozen restaurants and bars, including food courts and fine dining choices.
The Mohegan Sun casino has three separate casino complexes, aptly named Earth, Sky, Wind. There is a full-service racebook with simulcast wagering and a poker room with 42 tables. Tournaments are offered daily, and player's club points (Momentum) can be used for the cost of tournament buy-ins.
There are 5,500 slot machines to choose from at Mohegan Sun, including denominations from penny to $100. New machines dominate the casino floors, with games like Family Guy, Dolly Parton, and Willy Wonka on display.
