Places to go with your kids in London
Though a museum might not immediately strike you as a great place to take children, some of the museums in London are specifically created to attract visitors of all ages, meaning less shuffling round exhibits and more hands-on activities. The British Museum is home to a massive range of sights, including Egyptian Mummies that will excite and shock your children in equal measure. The British Museum is absolutely free to visit and is easily accessible by Goodge Street or Tottenham Court Road Tube stations.
Also captivating, the National Portrait Gallery is located just off Trafalgar Square, and therefore can be combined with a day's sightseeing at Nelson's Column and nearby Buckingham Palace. Again, the Portrait Gallery is free, and is particularly ideal for older children who have slightly longer attention spans. However, there are often exhibitions aimed at younger children as well. It is best to check this in advance if you are thinking of heading in and perhaps plan your visit around a particularly kid-friendly exhibition.
If you have some money left in your budget, then Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum and the Planetarium are firm favourites. Madam Tussaud's add to their collection regularly, which means that your children will be able to spot their favourite celebrities and have their photo taken next to them. The Planetarium next door features an interactive tour of space, which will interest any budding astronauts in your group.
Though it's not particularly known as a kid-friendly landmark, a visit to the gates of Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament will likely be something your kids will always remember from their childhood. There are many walks to do around London that encompass all the famous attractions, so ask the receptionist at your London hotel for a map, or simply head down to the river and explore.
The best thing about London is the sheer number of famous sights and attractions located in the city centre. These famous landmarks are in such close proximity to one another that you don't need to worry about expensive taxi fares or car hire. You will stumble upon a series of world famous attractions on the banks of the Thames, including the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. The best thing about this walk is that it is absolutely free, and will keep your children fascinated and enthralled in this magical city.
