Days of Tordenskiold (Denmark)
The "Days of Tordenskiold" are an annual outdoor event in Frederickshavn, which lies in Denmark's North Jutland region. This popular two-day event focuses on the history of the Great Northern War (1709-1720) and takes place each year in late June.
Days of Tordenskiold lets visitors experience historic groups in colorful, authentic costumes from Scandinavia - and so much more! The events at this annual festival include fencing shows and a Tordenskiold play.
Culinary travelers can enjoy a huge banquet (and for more authentic 1717 food, visit the local pub "Den kække Kælling"). Learn more about the food in Scandinavian Cuisine.
The program of the festival also features a big fashion show with fashion from 1717, along with three-mastered training ships from Denmark and Norway.
The Days of Tordenskiold are named after Peter Tordenskiold, (1691-1720), a naval hero in the service of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway. He rose to the rank of Vice-Admiral during the Great Northern War.
