Baby Boomers: 4 Ways to Overcome Your Fears and Take Control of Your Future

103 12
As a baby boomer looking towards your future, you probably realize that things might not be quite the way you expected them to be.
Obviously there are changes, perhaps more than anticipated especially with regards to your financial situation.
What scares you most about your situation? Quite possibly, you're among the majority of baby boomers who either don't want to officially retire, or are in an unfortunate position of not being able to retire.
Perhaps you are in an unlucky position of having lost money, property, or both during the economic downturn.
These were finances you were relying on as your retirement nest egg.
Admittedly, we live in scary and uncertain times.
However, what distinguishes people who are successful or not, is what they do with that fear.
Some people choose to move ahead in spite of it.
You might label these people courageous, but recognize that courage is not the absence of fear.
Rather, courage is acting despite those terrifying feelings.
There is famous acronym for F.
E.
A.
R.
, that is "False Evidence Appearing Real.
" Fears are emotions that we project into the future as something that might happen.
Let's take this concept and turn it around into four ways in which we can use these emotions positively.
1.
False
If something is false, it means that it is incorrect or untrue.
When you examine what is worrying you, it might well be that you know you have to change, get out of your comfort zone, and do something new and different.
According to research, most of the time what frightens people is literally the thought of having to do something new, and different.
2.
Evidence
Look at what proof or confirmation you really have about your fears.
Obviously there are many situations you can foresee that you have zero ability to affect.
However, when it comes your own security, and your life, you have as much control as you want to allow yourself.
3.
Appearing
This means something that becomes visible.
Our minds are like movie screens, showing different scenes, some good and others not so good.
We are in control of these pictures, which means that instead of seeing bad things happening to us, we can focus on positive situations.
In fact, the more vivid your imagination, the more likely you are to manifest your thinking.
What this means is that you had better visualize your thinking the way you want it, rather than the opposite.
4.
Real
Reality is what is actually happening to you right here and now.
Reality means that you constantly have choices to make in the present as to what your future life could look like.
You can make courageous choices, which may mean taking risks, or you can make choices to let life pass you by, and allow yourself to be controlled, rather than be the master of your destiny.
The older we get the tougher it is to make those courageous risk-taking choices.
However, taking control of your life is an extremely freeing experience.
Not having to rely on others, knowing that you have the option to be completely self-sufficient.
If you don't believe me, give it a try.
Take a risk.
Try something new such as starting a home-based business where you can your own boss.
There are umpteen opportunities for you to choose from.
Just take some time to research on the Internet.
Resist your fears, something that is really "false evidence appearing real" and don't allow yourself to be held back from change.
Rather, be courageous and reach out to do something new, and different.
Make a conscious effort to wake up every morning with a vision of something that is worth striving for, that is worth taking a risk for.
Just let your fears go.
Recognize that they really are not serving you.
Rather, be a baby boomer on a mission of control and success.
