Diabetes - The Cure

Once again, I sit opposite the doctor as he hands me a few printed pages of a diet.
He smiles with complete confidence in the fact that he has saved me.
When I commented that, I loved chocolate and it would be difficult to give it up.
He answered that I need not give it up but to only eat one.
I smiled politely as I wondered if he would also advise the alcoholic to drink one drink.
He shakes my hand and walks me to the cashier's desk where I pay for this visit and I smile as I say goodbye.
I do not book the next appointment as suggested by the receptionist, I simply write a check for his fee and leave the office.
As I press the button for the elevator, I tear up the diet and dispose of the fragments of paper in the ashtray.
A familiar experience for all of us who are obese, have type 2 diabetes and seem desperate for some help.
However as usual, we are offered a fix instead of a cure.
Daily we read about the new drugs on the market to aid in weight loss, and to aid the diabetic.
The drug industry, doctors, diet, and weight management enterprises are thriving on this growing problem.
The billions of dollars earned and profits made in this lucrative industry will forever prevent a cure.
Curing the problem would result in bankruptcy for all involved.
We, the ones who are suffering from this obvious refusal to address a cure, must do something about it for ourselves.
When no one cares, it is time for us to consider a new concept, a cure for ourselves.
In order to cure a named disease or problem we must first search for how, when and why the disease occurred.
This is not an easy task for it requires full honesty.
Most of us will state we are honest with ourselves but fail to recognize the facts we have hidden or run from.
Uncovering the truths about ourselves will require some willingness to experience some mental pain.
Perhaps the cause can be from a personal loss, lack of self-confidence, rejection, divorce, lost job, lack of money, boredom, or lack of achievement.
We could add many more reasons to this list; however, all have contributed to our eating as a way for us to find comfort for our losses.
These are not excuses as some doctors and practitioners seem to imply, but causes for our current condition.
Once we know the reason and cause, we have the start for a cure.
No diet or pill can cure us.
This is a concept that the present medical profession and diet industry are unwilling to face.
Constantly lured with ads on the television and in magazines and countless literature our medical profession gives us, we are in a state of euphoria and hope.
Nothing in any of this even suggests a cure.
The cure will not be easy.
It will take time and willpower.
However, it is the only option.
We can spend the next years in the grasp of the insensitive and money hungry individuals we face daily, or we can begin a search for our own cure.
First the search.
Find the reason, and the beginning.
Then begin the final step and the most difficult.
We must begin with the life changes needed for the cure.
We all have the power to do this.
Do not wait.
Start today.
