How to Watch the 2014 Mr. Olympia
Here we go folks. The grandest competition in the history of bodybuilding, the 2014 Mr. Olympia, is upon us. The weekend of events commences on September 18 up until the 21st. It takes place at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you are unable to attend the event, then fear not, there are several ways you can catch all of the action.
Press Conference
Each year, the IFBB gathers all of the competitors for a press conference which, unlike many sports press conferences, is quite entertaining.
In fact, it is a must-watch, even if you're just a casual bodybuilding fan. Not only will you get glimpse of each bodybuilder's mindset just a day prior to prejudging, but you'll get to witness the competitors throw entertaining verbal jabs at one another.
The press conference will be held on Thursday, September 18. It will not be presented via a live feed, but you can catch a replay of the entire press conference here.
Men's Prejudging and Women's Finals Live Webcast
There will be two live webcasts of the 2014 Mr. Olympia. The first live webcast features the prejudging in the men's open bodybuilding division. It will be presented live on Friday, September 19, at 9:30pm ET/6:30pm PT. The prejudging is the first chance for each bodybuilder to showcase their physique to the panel of judges and then later compared to the rest of the lineup. 50 percent of a competitor's score is determined during the prejudging.
The finals in the women's bodybuilding, women's fitness, and bikini will also be held during the Friday night live webcast.
The prejudging of these divisions takes place earlier on Friday, but it will not be webcasted live. However, replays of the prejudging of each women's competition will be available for viewing a few hours after they conclude.
Men's Finals and Women's Figure Live Webcast
The second live webcast will be presented live on Saturday, September 20, at 9:30pm ET/6:30pm PT. The finals in the men's open bodybuilding, men's 212 bodybuilding and women's figure will be featured during this live presentation.
The conclusion of the weekend's main event, men's open bodybuilding, takes place during the finals. It is during this event that each bodybuilder gets the opportunity to perform a choreographed posing routine to music of their choice. This part of the contest is not scored and is purely to entertain the fans.
Following the posing round, the judges will bring back the bodybuilders for one last round of comparisons. The top 10 bodybuilders will be pulled out and compared one more time. The remaining 50 percent of their score is determined during this round. After this, the bodybuilders will have a few minutes to battle in a posedown, while the judges tally up all the scores. This posedown is sort of a free-for-all, as bodybuilders can go up against any of the 10 remaining bodybuilders that they chose and hit whatever pose they choose.
And then comes the most tense portion of the entire weekend. The top 10 are placed one-by-one, each walking to center stage to receive their medal and, of course, their prize check. Once the field is narrowed down to two bodybuilders, they both take center stage at the same time and the winner of the Mr. Olympia is announced first.
Note that the prejudging for the men's 212 bodybuilding and women's figure are not shown live. These events take place during the day on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and replays will be available later on their respective days. Also, note that the prejudging and finals of the men's and women's physique competitions, which have yet to be mentioned herein, will be held earlier on Saturday. These contests will not be show live but, once again, their replays will be available later on Saturday. You can catch all of the replays here.
