      As of July 2008, approximately 3 percent of Seattle's population of 598,000 described themselves as Chinese, according to City-Data.com, making this the fifth largest racial group in the city. Consequently, Seattle is home to a number of restaurants that specialize in the cuisine of China. These establishments range from casual, family-friendly restaurants that serve traditional dishes to upscale, Asian bistros with innovating presentations on classic Chinese flavors and ingredients.

    Wild Ginger Asian Restaurant

    • Established in 1989, Wild Ginger Asian Restaurant held Zagat ratings of "very good to excellent" for its food, decor and service, according to the Zagat website as of April 2010. Among the restaurant's creative presentations of Chinese recipes is the chef's special Wild Ginger fragrant duck, a whole roasted duck seasoned with cinnamon and star anise, dim sum steamed buns and a spicy Sichuan, peppercorn and salt plum sauce. Another favorite is the Hong Kong scallops, which are fried in a wok with carrots, pea pods, chives shiitake mushrooms and pinenuts and then covered in an oyster sauce. The restaurant's extensive wine list has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence annually since 1998 and the Wine Enthusiast Magazine Award Annually since 2004. Wild Ginger is open for lunch Mondays through Saturdays and for dinner nightly. Reservations are required. Business attire is appropriate when dining at the restaurant.

    House of Hong Restaurant

    • The House of Hong Restaurant is just two blocks from the Wing Luke Asian Museum. Dim sum is featured daily for breakfast and lunch and features an ever-changing selection of favorite recipes like steamed pork buns. For breakfast, the restaurant also offers dishes like scrambled eggs with bitter melon and steamed eggs with dried scallops. Lunch and dinner selections include live lobsters and crabs steamed and then served plain, with green onions or ginger, creamed or in a black bean or supreme spicy sauce. Large parties can also opt for one of the restaurant's family dinners. The Number Three Dinner comes with barbecued pork, moo shu park, won ton soup, General Tso's chicken, sweet and sour pork and the happy family, a combination of seafood, chicken and sauteed Asian vegetables. The House of Hong is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended. The restaurant does not have a dress code. Free parking is available on-site.

    Bamboo Garden Vegetarian Cuisine

    • Bamboo Garden Vegetarian Cuisine is an entirely meat-free restaurant that is also certified as Kosher. The menu begins with nine appetizer selections, including fried taro root patties with sweet and sour sauce or soybean wrappers stuffed with mushrooms and vegetables and then deep fried. A dinner entree, the botanic feast consists of braised Asian vegetables served with an Asian white fungus similar to mushrooms. Another favorite dinner selection is Buddha's white pearl, braised oyster mushrooms served in a secret recipe sauce. For dessert, try the hot peanut or almond pudding. A variety of soft drinks, juices and herbal teas are available to accompany the meal. Bamboo Garden is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended. Casual attire is the norm when dining at the restaurant.
