    Chemotherapy

    • Chemotherapy can be extremely severe and unpleasant. This treatment option is typically used when cancer cells have spread to different areas of the body. Chemotherapy uses certain types of medicines to attack and kill off cancer cells. The side effects caused from using chemotherapy medicine is very harsh. However, not all cancer patients may experience these side effects. Other medicines may be available to assist with pain caused from chemotherapy treatment.

    Radiotherapy

    • Radiotherapy treats patients using radiation. Specific rays are used to kill of cancer cells such as: X-rays, gamma rays or electrons. Using radiation tries to help eliminate these cancer cells from multiplying and reoccurring. More often than not, no pain is involved during therapy.

    Surgery

    • Surgery isn't the No. 1 option for all cancer patients. Although for others it can be of great use in treating and eliminating certain types of cancers. Malignant tumors located in one distinct area may benefit from surgery judging that it poses no threats in regards to cutting out the cancerous tumor and surrounding affected tissue. If the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, surgery may not be the most likely choice. Depending on where the tumor is located, removal by surgery can damage other vital organs.

    Alternative Treatments

    • Other types of alternative treatments include biological therapy and hormone therapy. Both therapies may be used in conjunction with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Other specific treatments may be available. Talking to your doctor to discuss your options can help in determining which treatment option is best for you.
