Liverpool is a beacon of culture in the UK and celebrates this with a range of bronze statues. No other city can boast a history of cultural significance quite like Liverpool (that's our story and we're sticking to it!). From the famous fab four to the Merseyside docks there are hundreds of reasons Liverpool has such a strong cultural identity. To honor that we take a look at some of the best statues around Liverpool.

John Lennon
The larger than life working class hero had the world in the palm of his hand. Part of super group The Beatles and an unrivalled solo artist and political activist John Lennon turned the world's eyes towards Liverpool. To keep the spirit of ‚¬the walrus' alive you can catch a glimpse of him leaning up outside the famous Cavern Club in his notorious Hamburg rock and roll pose. You can also find him again in Liverpool John Lennon Airport, captured in a casual stroll. Imagine that....

Johnnie Walker
You may think he is just a name on a bottle but Captain Johnnie Walker is a World War II hero. The national appeal in 1998 encouraged donations from across the country and even from a German U boat commander who admired the doughty character of Captain Johnnie Walker. The fearless captain now stands looking out to sea at the end of the pierhead.

The Horse
Liverpool is proud to honor the hard working Shire horse. That's right only a few years back the campaign to commemorate the hard working shire horses of the docks was finally put into fruition. The huge life sized statue of the horse is truly a work of art and is called Waiting. It can be found on the Albert docks and is so lifelike it may just take you by surprise.

Dixie Dean
Outside the hallowed ground of Goodison Park you can find the first class footballer Dixie Dean cast forever in a bronze statue. Dixie went down in history for being the man to score the most goals in the beautiful game in a single season. Dixie Dean is the true story of a small boy who loved football and grew up to be the greatest footballer in history simply through determination. Sadly he passed on a few years ago but now he is standing proudly, football under arm outside the place he loved best.

Sir John and Cecil Moores
The best known brothers of business have returned home in the dazzling natural bronze statue on Church Street. Sir John Moores was founder of the Littlewoods Empire. Born and raised in a down and out family it seems Sir John Moores was truly a working class hero who went on to one of the nation's most successful merchants. He was also the brains behind the nation's favorite pastime the pools game. Sir John Moores was such a success and inspiration he even has one of Liverpool's most prestigious Universities named after him.

Billy Fury
the massive 7 ft bronze statue of the singer has also come home to reside on Albert Dock, the singers favorite spot. The legendary rock and roll star became a household name with 11 top 10 hits. His debut album The Sound of the Fury is said to be one of the greatest rock and roll albums ever penned.
