How to Make a Cyberpunk Helmet
- 1). Collect cyberpunk elements from discarded electronics, such as circuit boards, wires, electronic cylinder pieces and spiral telephone cord. Look to surplus stores for items such as black medical tubing and larger electronics components. Find small, battery-operated green lights, such as electro luminescent wire or temporary light sticks. The best collection of items should contain a variety of shapes and sizes to give your helmet visual interest; start with more items than you'll need so that you have a lot of options.
- 2). Remove all distinguishing accessories and pieces from the helmet, such as chin or face guards, straps or any decals that you can peel off. Some accessories, such as visors, may work with the cyberpunk aesthetic, so consider leaving them in place.
- 3). Spray paint the helmet with high-gloss black spray paint. Let dry, then add a second coat. If you've left a visor or similar piece on the helmet that you don't want sprayed, coat it in masking tape before painting, then remove the tape once the paint is dry.
- 4). Strip down the cyber elements you've collected to bare single parts, rather than several pieces joined together (as they will be before dismantled). Remove any labels or distinguishing features.
- 5). Arrange the cyber element pieces on the helmet using office tack to figure out how you want them placed. Move them around and experiment with different combinations. Most likely, you will want to feature many thick wire pieces being inserted into the helmet near the top and thicker components on the side, but the arrangement is up to you. Consider painting some of the pieces in steel, black or copper spray paint to give the finished piece a more unified, classic cyberpunk look. If painting, spray the pieces now before re-attaching them to the helmet.
- 6). Attach the elements to the helmet using quick-set epoxy. For best results, mix a few teaspoons of epoxy at a time, use that quantity up, then mix more.
