Located in the northwest corner of New York state, Tonawanda is part of Erie County. According to the 2000 census the population of the town was just over 16,000 people which spread over four square miles. Though the town is relatively small in population, there are several landmarks and events throughout the year that draw large crowds to the small city to be part of the upstate New York charm that Tonawanda has to offer. - The Canal Fest is a long-standing tradition which is held each year in late July. The town of Tonawanda has a canal which runs directly through the center of the town. Each year more than 150,000 people come to celebrate the Canal Fest by attending this carnival like event. Everything from music, to games, rides, arts and crafts, to a bevy of food vendors can all be enjoyed right along the canal. Many people also moor or dock their boats along the canal to take in the party-like atmosphere. Some of the annual highlights include golf tournaments, a four-mile run, a rubber duck race for the kids and the Canal Fest Parade.

canalfest.org - The Garden Walk was established in 2002 and invites residents and visitors alike to walk through the many gardens kept by residents and municipalities throughout the town. With more than 50 stops along the way, people can expect things, such as koi ponds, gazebos and archways, all in the midst of indigenous flowers and trees of the region. The Ken Ton Garden Tour is constantly expanding and evolving. So that sights you see one year, may be completely different than those you see in the ensuing years. While there is no central contact for the Ken Ton Garden Walk, a list of current locations is listed on the town website. The town also provides a printable version of a map for those who wish to meander through the marvelous gardens.
- As the crisp, cool days of autumn descent upon Tonawanda, thoughts of Halloween start to come to mind. Each year, the parks and recreations department holds a Haunted Tales and Crafts night for kids as they get ready for their big night in costume. "Tiger Tom" will share fascinating ghost stories that are sure to spook even the most serious of goblins. Children also participate in making Halloween themed crafts. Light refreshments are usually served as well.
