A Solar Landscape Light - Outside House Lights

Then came the halogen dichroic lamp - the lamps used in all those downlighters recessed into our ceilings. The halogen dichroic lamp moved lighting on by a leap and a bound. The lamps are small, so the fittings to house them can be compact and discreet. Halogen light is cool and crisp, and its colour rendition is superb: shine halogen light at a lush green shrub and it looks lush and green, rather than grey. Best of all, the dichroic reflector focuses the light into a tight beam. Suddenly, you could point the beam at the things you wanted to light, and leave in darkness the things you didn't.

Once this is ruled out we can begin the process of eliminating items on the list. Remember to turn all power off to any light fixtures and electrical boxes before performing any work. For starters if the lights are flickering in only one room we can check the connection at the light fixture and at the switch. After which we can turn power back on and look for some flickering. Keep in mind that there are times that the problem may arise only after the lights have been on for a while. If we still have some flickering we can assume that the problem lies somewhere between were the switch is and circuit breaker, which brings up a point that we have been looking on one end of the problem and that at this point we could change gears temporally to look at the circuit breaker as a possible culprit.

Also, lay out your outside Christmas lights on the floor in your house first of all and plug them in to see if any bulbs need changing. Few things will waste more of your time and will be more soul destroying than putting up a string of lights only to find that a number of bulbs need changing and you have to take the whole lot down again!

When examining the circuit breaker be sure to turn all the power off feeding that electrical panel. Ensuring the power is off before inspecting the possible causes of the flickering lights is one of the safety procedures we will always be stressing. After removing the circuit breaker, inspect both the panel and the breaker for signs of heat buildup or arching, which will show up as pitting and corrosion where the breaker attaches to the panel or the busing on the panel. If these check out the problem could still be inside the circuit breaker itself which does not lend itself to internal inspection. At this point you can have it replaced and eliminate it from possible causes. While we are in the electrical panel, we should also be looking at the neutral wire for that circuit. A loose neutral wire can be just as damaging to the integrity of an electrical circuit as the hot wire. After checking the tightness of the screw holding down the wire, give it a little tug to be sure.

Mounting Choices

Where should you focus the lights that you are installing to the exteriors of your house? People often get confused with the object or the purpose of the lighting. As far as the interiors are concerned, the spaces are enclosed and they just have to install the lights. As long as the interior spaces are illuminated, there is absolutely no problem where and how you install the lights.

People have been taking light outside for as long as they've had gardens. It's hardly surprising. Gardens are nice places to be after dark in summer. You can bet your bottom dollar the Hanging Gardens of Babylon had ranks of state-of-the-art torches so the court could savour its delights in the cool of the desert night.

3. A flush mount unit can be attached to a shed, side of a house or garage and can be used for security or general illumination.

If you are installing solar lights, this process becomes even more important. This is because these lights are expenses and cannot be moved or tinkered with, on a regular basis. If you are installing standard lights, you will have to consider the wiring and the other infrastructure that is required to set up the same.

Your choice of illuminated festive figures will be relatively straightforward. A Santa figure climbing down a chimney will, quite obviously, need to be placed on your chimney. Similarly, Santa's sleigh with reindeer will always look amazing on the roof. An illuminated snowman surely needs to go in your garden?

Choosing your lights can be more difficult but we would recommend looking at rope lights if you have not previously. These are, essentially, small bulbs encased in a clear PVC flexible tube. All of the usual colours are available and they come in varying lengths making them suitable for just about every situation. They usually retail in lengths of 3, 6 or 8 feet lengths but it is possible to buy a whole spool running to 150 feet. This can be cut to your desired length.

5. Recessed illumination can be used to insert into a deck floor or wooden staircase.
