    • The Mopar 2.2L engine was installed in various Chrysler vehicles from 1981 to 1994. There are two sets of head bolt torque specifications, the first for 1981 to 1985 models and the second for 1986 to 1994 models. Engine head bolts must be tightened in a certain sequence.

    Head Bolt Numbering

    • Head bolts are numbered sequentially in the order in which they must be tightened. From left to right, the front row is numbered 9, 5, 1, 4, 8, and the rear row is labeled 10, 6, 2, 3, 7.

    Tightening Steps 1981 to 1985

    • Tighten bolts 1 to 10 in four sequential increments: first to 30 ft-lbs., then to 45 ft-lbs., again to 45 ft-lbs., and finally, an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn) on each bolt.

    Tightening Steps 1986 to 1994

    • Tighten bolts 1 to 10 in four sequential increments: first to 45 ft-lbs., then to 65 ft-lbs., again to 65 ft-lbs., and finally, an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn) on each bolt.
