Homemade Golf Grip Solvent

    Water

    • You cannot get any simpler than water, and water can be very important for keeping your grips tacky and effective. Ideally, you want a dry towel with you to wipe off your grips after every shot to keep any debris and sweat off of your grips. You should also carry a water bottle and pour a little on each grip after every nine holes, then towel them dry. If you cannot stop playing for a few minutes to do this, do it when you get a chance. At the very least, clean your clubs with water after every round.

    Soap

    • Once a month, clean your grips thoroughly with a mixture of warm water and dish soap. A tablespoon of dish soap for every gallon of water is a good mixture. Do not allow your grips to soak in the water. When you clean the heads of your clubs, you can allow them to sit in warm soapy water for several minutes before cleaning them by hand, but if you allow grips to sit in warm soapy water, it can start to harden the grip and dissolve the glue holding the grip in place. Dunk the grip in the water just enough to get it wet, then completely towel dry it.

    Vinegar

    • Add a half-cup of vinegar to a gallon of warm water. Pour the solution into an empty spray bottle if you have one. Otherwise, you can wet a towel with the solution and spread it on the grip. Just as with the soapy water, dry the grip immediately. You will notice that once the grip is dry, it is tackier than it was before you added the solvent. If the smell of vinegar does not work for you, you can use the same amount of ammonia.
