Notebook: Bruce Edwards Foundation
Longtime caddie Bruce Edwards passed away in 2004 from Lou Gehrig's Disease, or ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). His friend and, for many years, employer, Tom Watson, formed a fundraising organization at that time, and has raised millions of dollars since for ALS research.
Now, Watson has teamed up with author John Feinstein - whose book, Caddy for Life (buy now), told Edwards' story - to form the The Bruce Edwards ALS Research Foundation.
The new organization has already raised more than $1 million, and all of its fundraising goes directly to research dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for ALS.
You can learn more about the Bruce Edwards ALS Research Foundation, and even make a donation, at www.bruceedwardsfoundation.org.

? Would it surprise you to learn that only 25-percent of golfers ages 16 and over wear golf shoes on the course? I was a little surprised to hear this result from a recent survey by the company Leisure Trend Groups.
The survey found those most likely to wear golf shoes are the most competitive golfers among us, and golfers ages 64 and older. What would explain this lack of interest in golf shoes among the majority of golfers?
Leisure Trends Group, a leading sports and leisure marketing and research firm, suggests it has to do with the styling of golf shoes. Golf shoes, the company's analysts say, just haven't caught up to other types of athletic footwear in style - and surveys show that when it comes to shoes, fashion beats comfort.
But golf shoe fashion has made great strides in recent years. You can see that by checking out the Golf Shoes section of our Pro Shop. Apparently, they just haven't caught up to the tastes of younger golfers.
