There are plenty of ways to monetize, meaning make money from, your Web site or blog, but there is no cookie cutter approach.
What works for one site may not work for another.
And what ends up working well in the end may require plenty of tweaking and optimizing to get it working well.
One thing that is always needed is traffic, visitors coming to see your site.
No traffic, no money.
There are lots of ways to get traffic, including free traffic from search engines, commonly called organic SEO or Search Engine Optimization, buying traffic such as from Google or Facebook, and by publishing articles to free article directories.
If the traffic is targeted, you don't necessarily need much, but if it's fairly random you'll need much more.
Let's look at 3 popular ways to monetize: 1) Google AdSense is a very popular program that may or may not work for you.
You sign up with Google and they place ads based on your content on your site.
Presumably visitors interested in your content will be interested in the ads, and you get paid between a few pennies and a few dollars per click.
In order for AdSense to work, you typically need the ads very visible and in the main content.
Placing them on the side or where scrolling is needed to see them usually doesn't work very well.
Also, not all topics work well with AdSense.
You need to experiment, but as a rule, product based sites work well and others may or may not.
Some people make a large income from AdSense alone.
2) Affiliate programs, where you recommend others products and services and get paid a commission per sale.
You never need see, touch, or ship any products.
One large example is Amazon's program.
You sign up, and if anyone clicks on an image or link on your site that takes them back to Amazon, you get a percentage of each sale.
There are thousands of different affiliate programs available online.
Reviews work well with affiliate sales.
Review a product or service you believe in, and hopefully you'll make a few sales.
Plenty of people make a full time living from affiliate marketing.
3) Creating and selling information products, such as ebooks, audio, and video programs.
Even if the information is available for free, many people will pay for updated and organized information that is conveniently packaged.
