Who doesn't love dressing their baby in great baby clothing and adorable outfits? Some parents find that more often they get sucked into "I just HAVE to have it!" clothing purchases for their baby rather than for themselves. But all those purchases add up, sometimes quickly. Here are some tips on how to find affordable (even free!) cheap baby clothes that won't break the piggy bank.

1. Craigslist

You can think of Craigslist as on-line classified ads that post listings specific to location. You can easily browse listings or set up RSS feeds to scope out lots of baby clothing at great prices. Craigslist also has a "Free" section where you might be able to snag some bounty without shelling out a dime.

Additionally, you can place your own "wanted" ads asking for specific items. This can be done using an anonymous email address to protect your privacy. When making arrangements for picking up items, always scrutinize the situation for safety and check out the merchandise before paying the money.More »

2. eBay

More than likely if you've got internet access or some sort of computer awareness, you've heard of eBay. eBay is an on-line auction warehouse. You can browse individual auctions from all around the globe to find all sorts of baby clothing and more.

One thing to be mindful of is the shipping costs that can be tacked on to the price after the auction is closed. Though you might be thinking you're getting some items for a steal, you might find you've gotten ripped off by astounding shipping and handling fees.

3. Freecycle

Freecycle sounds like what it is - the opportunity to recylce items to other people for free. Like Craigslist, communities are organized by location. Users can post ads for items they are looking to get rid of or items that they are in need of. This grassroots organization is looking to "green" up communities by passing on used items rather than simply ditching them.

Before posting at Freecycle, be sure you take a look at the individual communities' rules for posting ads and for picking up items. The social etiquette of Freecylce can vary from community to community.More »

4. HandMeDowns.Com

HandMeDowns.Com is a mom-run website that encourages moms to buy, sell, trade, or give away baby items, not just clothing. Also organized by geographic region, it focuses the reading audience specifically to parents and caregivers of children. It also can link to other sites, such as eBay. So it's a great way to advertize your listing to other web-readers.

5. Organize a Clothing Swap

If you belong to any community organizations that have a large pool of parents, consider putting together a clothing swap. This is a great way for parents to bring in the baby clothing their little one has outgrown, and swap it for the next size up.

Organizing a clothing swap can be fairly simple, but runs more smoothly with a bit of forethought. If space allows, spend a week or two just collecting the clothing. Work out a in place that will help sort baby clothing donations into appropriate size and gender categories. This will make for easier browsing. Then select a period of time (a day to a week) when parents can stop by and select clothing that suits their needs. Any unwanted items can then be donated to other community organizations.

6. Check Consignment Shops for Cheap Baby Clothes

You might find some luck finding baby clothing in excellent used condition from consignment shops. Consignment shops go over items with a fine attention to detail, weeding out clothes with stains or tears and selecting the best of the best used clothing. Consignment shops also tend to pull name brand pieces, so if you are looking for certain clothing manufacturers' designs, this could be the place for you.

7. Get on Mailing Lists

Many children's clothing stores offer both snail-mail and e-mail mailing lists. Consider signing up for these mailings, so that you can receive coupons or be given a heads up on future sales and marked down items. Though junk mail can be a pain, you might be able to save yourself some bucks to make it well worth it.
