Identification

• As with all slang words and languages the exact definition of "Shaper" varies, but is usually considered to be a man who tends to make himself appear bigger by swelling up or strutting when he walks around. A rigid torso, extended arms, raised chin and a demeanor that suggests a willingness and readiness to fight are all traits associated with a "Shaper."

  "Shaper" can also be used to point out someone (most often a male) who is a showoff. Therefore, when in Ireland, do not automatically assume that someone identified as a "Shaper" only wants to fight.

• You don't have to be in Ireland to find a "Shaper." Tough guys, showoffs and guys with too much bravado can be found all over the world. Alcohol can sometimes be the solution if a "Shaper" is looking to invade your space, but usually it is best to just ignore him.
