How to Upgrade an Economy Plane Ticket
- 1). Enroll in a mileage program with an airline. Choose an airline that flies out of your home airport, or one that you will fly frequently. Over time you can accrue miles that will allow you to upgrade an economy ticket. If you are currently in a mileage program, contact the airline to find out your eligibility for an upgrade.
- 2). Search online for deals on business class fare. According to The New York Times, "There are other options: Shop for a discount business-class ticket at a site, such as Trailfinders.com, Airline-network.co.uk, Lastminute.com or Travelonweb.com."
- 3). Ask friends and family members. Many people who travel a lot have an abundance of unused frequent flier miles. People you know are a great source of miles.
- 4). Arrive at the airport early. Although no guarantee exists, many airlines offer kiosk upgrades on the day of the flight to passengers. Do your research, and find out if the airline on which you are traveling offers this service.
- 5). Investigate a premium economy seat if available. These seats normally provide additional legroom compared to the regular economy seats. All airlines do not have premium economy so check with your specific airline.
- 6). Smile and interact in a friendly manner at the airport. Many people say that dressing up makes a difference, but the best advice is to dress neatly and be kind. Act pleasant to people who work at the airport, and you may find yourself with an upgrade on that economy ticket.
