How to Cancel a Booked Travel Plan
- 1). Check with your hotel, cruise line, airline and/or travel agent for their cancellation policy. They vary greatly by company, so while travelers may get a full refund on a hotel room at one property, another hotel might make you pay in full if you cancel. The earlier you cancel, the better chance you have at getting your money back.
- 2). Call each company and cancel your travel with each place you have booked such as hotel, rental car, airline and cruise line. If you booked your travel with a travel agent, contact the agent and he or she will handle the cancellations for you.
- 3). Find out if you can change your travel plans to another date. United and British Airways, for example, will let you change the date of your ticket for a fee, and some airlines have "peace of mind" policies that allow travelers to re-book tickets in case of acts of terrorism.
