Efficiency, coupled with speed and quality, has now become a critical success factor in today's clinical development environment.
Numerous organisations perceive the use of CROs to be popular approach to driving efficiency, and it is an approach which is fast becoming common practice within the industry.
For this reason, sponsors are choosing the use of CROs for their clinical development needs for a number of reasons.
The intention of Clinical Research Organisations is to Increase effectiveness and flexibility, and therefore by using CROs, sponsors can amplify their flexibility by decreasing their requirement for round the clock internal and permanent staff whilst ever increasing their admission to a much larger range of specialist peripheral resources.
An exercise that converts into better competency for the clinical trial process is that Clinical Research Organisations or (CRO's) are highly incentivised to insistently administer their employees and overhead costs...
this is a massive task and sponsors will benefit from this in terms of cost-related efficiency gains.
Consider the following question: Who is better positioned to reduce over head costs of a drug trial? A clinical research sponsor who more likely specialises in the process of developing new chemical entities into medicine or a well established CRO that conducts clinical trials for a multitude of sponsors that generally specialises in the clinical trial process and that has lowered operating costs to a minimum through years of experience? The answer seems simple.
In Conclusion, the relationship between a sponsor and a CRO is a relationship of mutual benefit; The Sponsor gains flexibility and reduced overheads by using the CRO which supplies the exact amount of resources at that specific time, The CRO in turn is able to acquire a business profit.
