You don't have to spend a lot of time or money to ready the outside of your home for fall. Give your porch or yard a festive look with harvest-hued décor pieces and elements of nature. Design an easy outdoor scheme that will put you and your guests in festive spirits upon entering your home. - Welcome friends and loved ones into your home with a wheelbarrow filled with autumn-inspired items. The outdoor décor piece will only take minutes to make, but will look festive all through the autumn.
Fill an antique wooden wheelbarrow with hay to begin the project. Pile different-sized orange and white pumpkins on top of the hay, placing the largest on the bottom and the smallest on top. Incorporate several orange, yellow and green gourds into the mix. Insert twigs of red and orange berries and frame the wheelbarrow with vibrant bittersweet branches. As a charming touch, write "Welcome Friends" on two large pumpkins using a black paint pen. Make the display Halloween-ready by placing a carved jack-o-lantern on the top of the pumpkin and gourd pile. - Hanging a festive wreath on your front door is one of the easiest and most eye-catching ways to decorate for fall. You can also use a wreath to jazz up a front gate. Buy a pre-made wreath for convenience, or make your own using basic craft items.
Make a simple and vibrant wreath by inserting the stems of colorful faux autumn leaves into a foam base. Glue pine cones onto the leaves for a natural look. Glue artificial harvest-hued blooms, such as sunflowers, orange and red Gerbera daisies, deep red roses and dark orange mums, to the wreath. Apply the flowers to just the bottom of the wreath, or completely cover it with flowers. Loop a wide orange, yellow or red ribbon through either wreath for hanging. - Light the way for house guests by enhancing your porch with a charming pumpkin luminaria. Fill a tall ceramic or metal garden urn with straw and line the top with real or faux fall leaves. Set the urn on a top porch step or near the front door. Carve a large pumpkin with any design you desire, such as swirls or stripes. Place the carved pumpkin on top o the decorated urn. Stick a few branches of red and orange berries into the hay and leaves around the pumpkin to complete the harvest-inspired look.
Insert an LED light into the hallowed-out pumpkin to transform it into a lantern.
