How to Make Stone Walls Steps
- 1). Identify the location where you want your stone wall steps to be installed. Outline the location using a stick.
- 2). Clear the area of debris. Make sure the region where your base layer of stones will be set is completely clean.
- 3). Select four large stones that are about the same size, shape and height. Lay these down as the base layer for your steps. Make sure your stones are level before moving on. If they are not level, you will need to adjust the earth under the stones so that they level out.
- 4). Mix water, dirt and hay in equal parts in your wheel barrel. This is going to be the glue that holds your steps together. Scoop out a little bit of the mixture using your trowel. Push it into the spaces between your base layer of stones.
- 5). Set two stones of about the same size on top of the two stones closest to the wall. These will make up the second tier of steps. Grout these stones with the mixture forcing as much of the mixture as you can in the crevices between the top stones, the wall and the first layer of stones. The top of the low stone wall will act as the top step and landing.
- 6). Repeat the process on the other side of the wall.
