    • 1). Make a trip to the Clerk of Court’s office in your county, or the county where your marriage will be held if you are not a resident of California. Both the bride and groom must be present or a marriage license application cannot be filed.

    • 2). Present photo identification to the County Clerk. According to the California Department of Public Health acceptable forms of photo identification include driver’s licenses, state identification cards, passports or military identification. It is also recommended that you bring your birth certificate as it is required in some counties.

    • 3). Offer proof of the dissolution of any previous marriages. This includes a divorce decree or a death certificate. Your marriage license will be issued to you immediately and there is no waiting period to use it. The license expires 90 days after the date it was issued to you.
