Finding Your Niche in the Field of Energy
Energy Crisis are here to stay. The current global energy crisis does not parallel energy crisis of yester-years. The Carter Administration did not have to deal with a competing energy demand with China or India. Neither have we see the level of energy subversive technologies, special interest,or global speculation that exists in this time period. None of that is fixing to go away soon. The worlds appetite for energy will increase as long as populations continue to increase.
The young aspiring entrepreneur should look for ways to capitalize on the growing global problem of energy. A few areas to consider: 1) Energy conservation- we need to develop new ways to save energy within the existing infrastructures in place. Building and transportation consume the largest portion of energy by percentage. Everyone ones a home(or lives in one), and everyone drives an automobile. The methods of energy conservation in these fields are well documented,but the cultures of energy conservation awareness must be expanded to reach the individuals every conscious decision when it comes to energy use in the home or driving in the car on the highway. 2) Energy Efficiency- equipment can't developed efficient enough. We will always need hater heaters in our homes,or air conditioners. We will always need some form of transportation. 4) Expand use of public transportation in place of private transportation: Highly efficient public transportation over private transportation would severely retard green house emissions and limit the need for fossil fuels. 5) New forms of Renewable Energy - solar, wind, and hydro provide excellent source energy which requires technology advancement beyond what we currently have in place.6)New fuel sources -the world is addicted to oil. New energy sources would bring diversity to energy markets and help in the stabilization of the middle east region by diffusing the reliance energy to other regions beyond these oil rich and tempestuous nations. Research and development in this ear is desperately needed.Some promising technologies such as fuel cells and nuclear need not to be abandon but further developed for use. A nation will find strength and energy independence in the diversity of many types of fuel sources.
With new demands for energy in the future comes new challenges for the next generation. This will require a much large force of engineers, marketers, and investors if we have any chance at seeing energy remain affordable. Looking for a future career?
