How do you know if you are an expert?

Well... You may be an expert if your idea of recreational reading is an industry journal.

You may be an expert if you offer a free half hour consultation but have to speak at 300 words a minute to get in all of your ideas.

You may be an expert if people keep telling you to stop giving it all away.

What we are going to cover is how to let others know that you are an expert. There are four essential steps to go from "one of the pack" to "thought leader".
We will be several hours on each step covering the theory, exploring the options and then creating a specific action plan that meshes with your unique vision. Let's look at those steps in brief:

Step one is to commit to the idea that you are a specialist and define that expertise.

Defining your niche can be a challenge... day one of business, you want anyone and that can become a habit.

It has been said that the biggest obstacle to reaching our dreams is not something bad - but something good - we get comfortable settling for okay.

Many entrepreneurs are afraid that if they declare a niche or expertise - they will turn away clients and lose business. The opposite is what actually happens.

What if you could answer your phone and find your ideal client on the other end each time? What if every day you were reaching people who value you and are changed by your services? What if your competition just suddenly disappeared? Or at least seemed to.

When you are recognized as the expert, you become the only option.

It is not your training that turns you into an expert - it is your passion that turns you into an expert.

So step two is to identify where your passion and industry needs intersect. At that juncture you will find your ideal client. That 20% that not only provide 80% of your current revenue - but also provide the majority of your testimonials, your referrals and especially the excitement you have in your business.

Next in step three we craft how you communicate to that ideal client that you ARE an expert

This is done by showing that their problem is your focus. You need to be able to state the problem you solve better than anyone else.
For instance: Anyone can get head lice - rest assured, we can help. Friendly, confidential and discreet service right in your home - chemical free.

Craft powerful questions that resonate with your client and draw them in. For instance: What if your competition just suddenly disappeared? Or at least seemed to.

You need to become the one that wrote the book on your niche - sometimes literally.
There is a process to becoming known as the go-to-guy for your industry:

· an information product,
· your own language, coined phrases, trademarked "product names" - that describe solutions your ideal client needs
· becoming a speaker, writing articles, appear on radio, TV in newspaper.

Step Four is automating as much of the process as possible and planning for passive or residual income.
