Glantz -- The Stalingrad Trilogy Stalingrad is the epic battle that changed Russian and German history.
It changed world history.
The Nazis were winning on most fronts when they decided to invade in 1942.
Stalin was holding off, putting few men on the front.
He feared a war with the Germans, wanted to ally with Hitler; Stalin was not the smartest of leaders, but he knew how to hold power.
Kursk is the tank battle of chariot battles.
Another Glantz book, this title goes over how the King Tyger, King Panzer, and Elephant Destroyer were beaten by the T-34 Russian, T-60, and KV heavy tank.
Russia is not forgotten in the wars with the Mongols.
If you read enough history, you should consider the battle the Mongols lost.
They lose to a joint European army on the step.
Most Russian histories would chroniclethis, but "Poland" by James Michener is a good historical fiction to read here.
David Hacket Fischer Washington's Crossing won the Pulitzer.
Thought a bit referenced, the book is a history of revolutionary war stories.
There is so much to be had on a book focused on two key battles in American history.
French and Indian War There were the Dutch wars, there were the French and Indian Wars, there was the war of American Revolution, and there was the war of 1812 -- all focused on making America a sole country, independent from foreign rule.
I would invest in "Crucible of War," a good on the French and Indian Wars.
You might try a used book store to get different copies.
Chess Chess is war.
Chess is history.
Chess is a powerful strategy game.
Batsford is the publisher you must invest in for chess addiction.
They have the best books on Chess, or at least the top grand master games.
Civil War The American Civil War is not my most favorite of wars.
There were many pointless battles, but that is politics.
The Civil War book everyone Recommends is by Shelby Foote.
I prefer single books of strategy, perhaps Gettsburg or Vickburg, the two most important battles of the war, if you discount Antietam.
Biography Lincoln has been named by many authors as the best president the United States of America has ever had; much better than Roosevelt, stronger than the Virginian Washington, but perhaps a Kennedy in that he needed another term to really change things.
His war was won.
What book? The War Years and The Prairie Years by Carl Sandburg must be played.
These are some of the best American history books ever published.
They may be hard to get, they may be a bit thick, but it's a good investment for historical fans.
