3 Signs You Need a New Job

Would you like to change jobs or change the path of your career? If you would, you are definitely not alone.
Here are 3 signs that it might be time to start looking for a new job or a new career.
1) Regular Overtime You may want to consider looking for a new job if you're regularly working overtime.
Although a little bit of overtime here and there is fine, if you're doing it every day or every week it's a sign that either you can't perform in the job, or you're being asked to do too much.
If it's the former then you may want to discuss training or learning curve support from your manager.
The latter option, being expected to do too much, can happen when the company decides not to recruit and instead carves the job up between a few people as extra responsibility.
Another reason is that the leadership can't make decisions on priorities or the business plan or strategy is in-effective.
If this is the reason you may want to re-discuss job descriptions, deliverables and targets for the year.
If you're being paid extra for overtime then be careful that you don't get used to the money as standard and begin to live according to the new pay-check.
When the overtime stops you'll find it harder to cut back your spending.
If you're salaried then your company is getting a very good deal and so re-discussing job descriptions and deliverables may also open the way for a salary review and pay-rise.
2) No Career Ladder These days the obvious career ladder isn't as obvious and it's about you being in control of your career progression.
However as part of annual discussions with your leader or manager you should be agreeing the next steps of your career path.
If these aren't happening, or they don't seem to have any interest in helping you explore your career options then that could be a sign that it's time to move on.
Just occasionally there are some situations where you can work as hard as possible and never receive a praise for your hard work, see a pay raise, or see a promotion.
Don't hang around and lose confidence and faith in yourself.
3) Leave Your Self At Home The final reason you should seriously consider looking for another job is if you're leaving your self at home, or in the car park.
If the you that shows up for work is a very different you (or a cut down version) to the one you are outside of work this becomes very draining.
Over time not being able to express aspects of your self leads to you developing a false persona.
As you get promoted within the company there is less and less chance of you being able to recover and bring these aspects out.
This can lead to a source of inner frustration or to feel like you have no work/life balance.
This is not because your work and life aren't balanced, it's because you aren't in balance.
