How to Put Audacity on a Flash Drive

If you frequently record and edit audio clips using the free utility Audacity, you might like to have the utility available on every computer you use. However, downloading and installing your favorite applications on each computer you use can be time-consuming. In addition, you may not have the ability to install software on some computers because of user permissions. Portable Apps is a free program you can use to install Audacity and other applications on a flash drive. Using this program, you can bring your flash drive to any computer and run Audacity without installing it

Instructions

Direct your Web browser to PortableApps.com and click the "Download Now" link.

Click the "Download" button under "Platform Only" and save the file "PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_1.6.1.exe" to the desktop.

3.Insert an empty flash drive into one of your computer's USB ports and double-click the file "PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_1.6.1.exe" on the desktop.

Select your preferred language using the drop-down menu, and then click "OK."

Click "Next."

Click "Browse." Locate the inserted flash drive and click "OK."

Click "Install." This installs the Portable Apps platform on the flash drive.

Click "Finish" to launch Portable Apps. A menu appears on the right side of the screen.

Click "Options," and then click "Get More Apps." A new browser window opens and displays the PortableApps.com directory.

Scroll down to the "Music & Video" section, and click "Audacity Portable."

Click "Download," and save the file "AudacityPortable_1.3.13_Rev_2.paf.exe" to the desktop.

Return to the Portable Apps menu. Click "Options," and select "Install a New App."

Locate the file "AudacityPortable_1.3.13_Rev_2.paf.exe" on the desktop, and double-click it. Windows begins installing the portable version of Audacity on the flash drive. Click "Finish" when this process is complete.

Return to the Portable Apps window, and click "Audacity Portable" to run the application.
