  Go green with your autumn wedding flowers by choosing organic, locally grown flowers that are in season, or grow your own. Although less traditional, choosing flowers that are in bloom during this time of year will save you money. Dahlias, chrysanthemums (mums), asters, calla lilies, sunflowers, lilies and gladiolus are traditional fall-blooming flowers. Depending on where you live, there are others that bloom during this time of year as well.

  Choose greenery with texture for a distinctive effect. Add ferns or mosses to the bouquet to soften the look. Berries, leaves, small fruits or dried flowers, such as hydrangea, strawflower or Chinese lanterns, are attractive additions to bouquets. Flower vases made out of gourds, wood or other natural materials incorporate the autumn theme into reception. Wreaths made out natural materials and decorated with autumn flowers welcome guests to the wedding. Create mini-wreaths to use as place settings, attach a packet of seeds to the back of them that contain flowers used in the wedding, and allow the guests to take them home as a memento.

  Make your autumn wedding memorable by choosing colors that correspond and accent the rich hues of the season. The multiple shades of browns, deep oranges, rich reds and vibrant yellows are a palette worthy of an autumn wedding. There is no need to artificially dye flowers to get these rich hues, when many flowers come in these shades naturally. Calla lilies are a good example.   With a bit of creativity it is possible to create a memorable wedding by incorporating the colors of the season into your autumn wedding by accessorizing the cake and the wedding decorations with small bouquets of seasonal flowers. Use thin, color-coordinated ribbon to tie small bouquets to the pew bows, cake knife, wine glasses, and other decorations. Keep the autumn wedding flower theme going by adding edible flowers, such as the fall blooming pansy or calendula, to the wedding cake.
