Calacatta or Carrara? These two marbles are often confused. The price difference is probably the most noticeable difference to the novice is the price. Calacatta is priced $30 to $40SF more than Carrara (Carrera). Besides the noticeable price difference there are a few aesthetic differences. Firstly in general Calacatta has significantly whiter base that of Carrara. This is part of the major reason for the higher price; white base marble with veining is more sought than gray base marble tile. The high demand coupled with low availability of this premium marble makes for ideal conditions. The economic forces of supply and demand prevail creating a high price for Calacatta marble.

Secondly Calacatta has more dramatic and bold veining that that of Carrara (Carrera), this is created by the white base of the tile. With the white of base Calacatta any veining stands out considerably more than Carrara (Carrera) giving the marble its distinct and dramatic bold veining effect. With Calacatta the veining is clearer and almost appears more €in focus' than Carrara.

Calacatta is often called €Calacatta Gold' the gold is for the incredible occasional splashes of gold veining. With the correct Calacatta it appears as if the stone as gold metal within the stone. The price is the obvious difference but the price difference is created by supply and demand. Limited supply of this precious stone and demand created by the appeal of Calacatta for its brilliant white base and distinct and dramatically bold veining. This is for most the best of all the white natural stone marbles. When cut into 3x6€ subway tile, 6x12€ Subway tile along with 2€ Hexagon, Herringbone mosaics and accessories Calacatta from Italy creates an astonishing and unique look to any bathroom.

Calacatta has long been the stone of royalty availability and price have made acquiring this premium stone almost impossible for most. In most cases the product has to be special ordered and the wait time can be months. Until recently this premium natural stone has only been available from a select number of retailers. The distribution has been controlled by a few and the price although high due to the previously explained points has been inflated through high cost and inefficient distribution chains. Today however Calacatta from Italy can be purchased online this is the first time in history since an online supplier has been able to source and launch a complete collection of Calacatta 2€ hexagon, Calacatta 3x6, 6x12€, 12x12€ mosaics and accessories.
