    • 1). Hold your speed skates upside down to get an adequate view of the wheels and wheel frame. Insert the head of a properly fitted Allen wrench into the bolt of your first wheel. Rotate the handle of your Allen wrench to loosen the front wheel from the wheel frame. Remove the front wheel. Repeat the removal process with each of the remaining wheels of your speed skates.

    • 2). Locate the bearings housed in the center of your speed skating wheels. Utilize the bearing removal knob of your skate tool to displace your speed skating bearings. Identify the plastic shields that cover the internal balls of the bearings.

    • 3). Insert the tip of a knife into the space between the bearing housing and the outer edge of the bearing shield. Push down on the handle of your knife to remove the bearing shield. Repeat the removal process with the remaining shields of your bearings. Place the bearings into a metal bowl.

    • 4). Pour a biodegradable cleaning solution over your bearings. Shake the bowl to loosen dirt particles that have been stuck in your bearings. Drain the bowl and place your bearings onto a dry paper towel. Dry the bearings by spraying them with the compressed air of a keyboard duster.

    • 5). Fasten the plastic shields over the balls of your speed skate bearings. Place the newly cleaned bearings into the center of your speed skate wheels using the knob of the skate tool. Tighten the wheels back onto the wheel frame using the tip of an Allen wrench.

    • 6). Cut down the center of your old speed skate laces using a pair of scissors. Pull the worn down laces away from your boots. Thread your new laces through the loops of your boots. Insert your feet into the newly repaired skates. Tie the laces to secure the skates to your feet.
