    • 1). Install the automotive voltmeter to the tractor dashboard. If there isn't a pre-drilled place to install the voltmeter, drill a small hole in the tractor dashboard. Attach the voltmeter to the dashboard with the metal screw, and tighten the screw with the drill so it holds the voltmeter firmly to the dashboard.

    • 2). Cut a piece of red wire long enough to reach from the alternator to the voltmeter, using the electrical pliers. Strip each end of this wire of 1/2 inch of insulation, and place a ring terminal over each end of the wire. Solder one ring terminal to each end of the wire, using the soldering iron and electronic solder. Cut a piece of black wire long enough to reach from the battery to the voltmeter. Strip each end of this wire of 1/2 inch of insulation, and place a ring terminal over each end of the wire. Solder the ring terminals to the wire ends.

    • 3). Search for the "BAT" terminal on the alternator. Loosen and remove the terminal retaining nut with an adjustable wrench. Place the one of the ring terminals connected to the red wire over the "BAT" terminal, and reinstall the terminal retaining nut. Route the other end of this wire to the voltmeter. Loosen and remove the retaining nut on the voltmeter positive terminal bolt. Place the ring terminal over the voltmeter positive terminal bolt. Replace the terminal nut, and tighten so that it holds the ring terminal snugly to the voltmeter positive terminal.

    • 4). Attach the free end of the black wire to the negative voltmeter terminal. Solder the wire to the terminal. Route the other end of this wire to the voltmeter. Loosen and remove the retaining nut on the voltmeter negative terminal bolt. Place the ring terminal over the voltmeter negative terminal bolt. Replace the terminal nut, and tighten so that it holds the ring terminal snugly to the voltmeter negative terminal.
