How to Fix Oil Burners
- 1). Turn off the oil furnace.
- 2). Go to the hardware store and select a filter that is designed for your brand and model of oil furnace. It is important to get a replacement filter that is intended for your oil furnace and has the same dimensions and density as the previous filter. If necessary, wait to purchase the new filter until you have removed the old one so that you can write down the information or bring it to the hardware store.
- 3). Open the access door, using a screwdriver if necessary. The access door is usually located on the front or side of the furnace unit.
- 4). Remove the filter by either sliding or pulling it out.
- 5). Vacuum out the filter cavity, making sure to remove all dust or grit.
- 6). Install the new filter by either pressing or sliding it into the filter cavity.
- 7). Reinstall the access door by tightening the screws into place.
- 8). Turn on the oil furnace.
