Create a Chic Bedroom On A Budget

For those of us who aspire to have a bedroom that looks as though it has fallen from the pages of an interiors design magazine, but only have small budget, there are many ways to create this look.

One of the first things you need to think about is how much space do you have in your bedroom and the second point to consider is the furniture you have, is it adaptable to the look you want to create.  These are the two many areas which are the most important, as if you do not have the funds to buy new bedroom furniture, then re-using your old wardrobes and chest of drawers will be of vital importance.

Assuming you need to keep your budget to a minimum, the key look to a chic bedroom is texture and colour.  Texture can range from the soft furnishings to the hard texture of the bedroom furniture and the feel of the walls.  You need to keep in mind the look of one texture against another.  For a chic look, you should aim for the bedroom furniture to be sleek, such as a high gloss or mirrored and for the soft furnishings to be heavily textured.

To create the look of sleek furniture without buying new pieces requires a bit of DIY skill, you can either purchase rolls of gloss laminate to cover the pieces of furniture or if you do not want all gloss, you can just focus on the drawers or doors of wardrobes.  If choosing the latter idea, you also need to prepare and attend to the outside of the piece of furniture.  A varnish in a walnut tone is ideally suited to compliment a gloss finish, although before applying the varnish you need to sand the wood to remove old varnish.

If you can afford to buy bedroom furniture, there is an endless choice for you to choose from and the prices are varied also.  A good suggestion would be to consider buying modular wardrobes, as the doors can be changed to create a new look when you come to decorate again, as they are reasonably priced, it doesn’t make too much of a dent into a decorating budget.

The colouring of the walls is important in creating a chic look; the main focus should be on one wall, with a striking block of colour, this is known as a feature wall. If you were using units with just the drawers or doors in gloss, then it would be a good idea to have your feature wall in the colour of the doors.  There are wonderful wallpapers about and those with a bold pattern are ideal for creating an impact, do remember though not to do your entire room in this bold colouring, as this will not create the chic look.

Deciding to create a chic bedroom can be done on a budget, select colours to enhance features and be prepared to invest some time and energy into a little DIY when necessary to avoid spending too much.  Once completed you can relax and imagine your hard work being featured in a glossy interiors magazine.
