Mediterranean Diet Scores High in Heart Health Review

A review of studies dating as far back as 1950 to 2007 has shown that a daily diet rich in fruits and vegetables and a small amount of meat is a way to gain not only a healthy life style, but also a healthy heart.
Researchers at McMaster University reviewed about two-hundred studies in Asia, Europe and United States.
They looked at the link between heart disease and the diet of individuals.
They suggest the Mediterranean diet is a diet that is the most beneficial to consume daily.
The study consisted of reviewing 146 studies, which looked at habits of a group of individuals.
Then 43 random trials which were controlled where individuals were assigned to a diet intervention.
A Mediterranean diet consists of fruit, vegetables, good fats like canola and olive oil, a tiny portion of nuts, red wine; in moderation, fish, and small amount of red meat.
According to Dr.
Sonia Anand; a professor of medicine at McMaster stated that Individuals should consume a healthy diet pattern like the Mediterranean diet which is rich in vegetables and fruits and low in trans fats.
She also motioned that they hope that this review will clarify as to what foods are harmful and what foods are healthy in relating to heart disease.
The researchers said that after all the studies were together the results showed that there was a relationship in protective factors with the consuming of Mediterranean foods of nuts, vegetables, monounsaturated fatty acids and there was harmful factors with the intake of the trans-fatty acids and high glycemic index.
Anand also added that they did not find real strong evidence in consuming the Omega-3 fatty acids.
Fish are heart protective, but such as flaxseed and walnuts have very small amount of research to say they help a huge amount.
Andrew Mente said that this study review does show evidence that a daily diet such as the Mediterranean diet is protective shield against coronary heart ailments.
