One of the biggest cons to outsourcing your writing is the problems that result from poor communication between you and the online person you hire sight unseen to write for you.
There are a large number of qualified writers available, to hire.
So one thing is to learn how to weed out the people who sign up just to earn a buck and not produce quality work from those who are doing this as a work from home career.
Even then, once you have an experiences and quality writer, problems can develop.
So these are some of the pitfalls that you need to try to avoid.
One.
Do not forget to treat the people you hire as employees instead of some magical computer software.
This is at the core of all the other issues that can arise.
We have gotten used to the anonymous nature of dealing with people on line, and it is easy to forget it is real people you are working with and not some automated pretend people system they have.
If you start off with the mindset of building a give and take boss/employee relationship you will be well on your way to avoiding most of the cons to outsourcing.
Two.
Take the time to be very clear with the description and expectations when you post for a job.
It might involve an outline, providing some samples or even several Q and A email (or a Skype) conversations.
Be specific Too much detail is better than unclear or incomplete directions.
Three.
Along the same lines, be sure you let them know your priorities.
This means to be sure to point out how important certain elements are to the final project.
It is common for directions to emphasize the accuracy of the writing and forget to take the time to point out how important using a certain font, bolding heading titles, and bullet patterns are.
Four.
Inexperienced writers can be an issue, so the interview process is important.
Besides looking are review and some samples, you can't forget that you can train people who have a good resume and decent writing skills but no IM experience on how to organize the writing, but you should never have to deal with or be expected to teach anyone about writing complete sentences and basic grammar.
By treating the people you hire, and yes you might end up with several people you like to use, as real people and take the time to be clear in your communications and be available for questions, you will resolve some of the cons to outsourcing your writing.
