How to Create Volume in Fine Hair
- 1). Use the correct cleansing, conditioning, and styling products. There are many shampoos and styling products formulated especially for fine hair that help create volume prior to blow drying and/or styling. Look for products that say "for fine hair" or "volumizing" on the labels. Volumizing mousses and spray gels are great pre-styling aids, and help to achieve the best results when styling to add volume.
- 2). Use large Velcro rollers in the top section of the hair to obtain instant volume. First, apply volumizing mousse or spray as directed to towel-dried hair. Blow dry the hair until partially dry. Focus on the roots area at the front and crown areas of the head, and use a round brush to brush hair up in small sections. Aim the blow dryer to the roots of that section to build volume. Take three to four large Velcro rollers and apply them in sections starting from the bang area and going back to the center of the crown of the head. Continue to blow dry until the hair is completely dry. Remove rollers and style as usual.
- 3). Get hair extensions to give hair a thicker appearance. Extensions can be added to the hair in many ways to create volume. Some methods such as fusion and sewing in a hair weave, can add fullness to the hair and enhance the hair that is already there. Consult with a stylist to discuss which method may be the best option for your hair type.
- 4). Wear high-volume hairstyles to make fine hair appear thicker. Try big romantic curls, or rough tousles for a wilder look. Deep waves and spiral curls give fine hair a volumizing transformation as well.
