Speak English Or Go Home
(Department of Motor Vehicles) Let me make that a little clearer.
All he said was "DMV?" I realized that he could not speak English.
Not being too fluent in Spanish, I did not know how to explain to him that it was right down the road on the left.
After leaving I thought to myself he can't even speak the language and He is driving a car in this country.
Now granted many of us have been to foreign countries on vacation or better yet have been stationed by way of the military in these lands.
We were never required to learn the language but it did help with communication with the locals.
As I recall a lot of places did not have translations for everything you were reading, yet some of the people did understand some of what you were saying, and were able to help.
In America it is different, very different.
We seem to cater to those who can not speak English and give them more rights and privileges.
Meaning, you as the American have to press 1 for English, most stores now have Spanish in succession to English.
Is this right? I recently read an article that stated that "more than 600 students in the city will learn English as a second language.
" My question is this.
How is the language of the country you are living in be the second language? We should just call it the United States of everybody else, Because the ones who live here don't matter as much as those who come here and can't even speak the language.
It may sound harsh and it may sound prejudice but if you can't speak English people should not speak to you.
Learning a different language can be fun, It's learning something new.
It doesn't mean you will actually use it, but it's like reading any book to gain knowledge.
But when you apply for a job in America, you should be able to speak the language and not be required to speak a language from another country.
And I quote most advertised jobs "Must be Bilingual.
" That particular line could be useful if you were to be applying for a job at the United Nations or a U.
S.
embassy, or perhaps border patrol so you could tell illegal immigrants to turn around and go home.
Speak English people, You are in America.
If you can't speak the language and you are here, at least let those who are speaking to you know that you are making an effort to speak the required language.
and not using for ethnic background for personal or financial gain.
I don't feel sorry for you that you can't speak the required language or that you can't get a job because you can't speak English.
If that is the case turn around and go home or learn what is required.
you get no sympathy.
