My daughter (15) and I just returned from the 9-day Southern Caribbean itinerary on the Norwegian Spirit. Both of us agree it was a great time.
The ship was beautiful and obsessively clean. We found the staff and crew to be both charming and professional, without exception.
The cabins, although small as with most cruise ships, were pleasant and constantly being cleaned. Our steward/ess ensured we had fresh towels and a clean area at least 2x a day. (My daughter loved the "towel animals" left on the bed in the evenings with fresh mints and turn down service). The wait staff were readily available and pleasant to deal with. Regardless of where you were on the ship, you could receive bar service or request most anything.
The food was....good. Not exceptional. But the freestyle dining gave you alot of options. We found the main restaurants to be very busy, so we spent alot of time at Raffles Buffet or at one of the casual services. The Blue Lagoon (behind reception on 7) cornered the market on burgers and diner-style items. These items at Raffles Buffet or Cafe were a little leathery.
Entertainment was in some cases great...in others good. We went to the featured shows every night and were never disappointed. The NCL Production Company was very talented and put on 3 terrific programs.
The external entertainers...a vocalist, magician, and comedian-juggler were all top notch. Scheduled activities in the pool area or theme nights at Galaxy of the Stars were cute and well received. The passenger demographics tended to be a bit older and couple-oriented. My teen didn't feel there were alot of options that catered to her age group.
The ports of call.......exceptional! We did take 2 excursion tours (Barbados and St. Lucia) and were not disappointed. (I highly recommend the 4x4 Waterfall tour in St. Lucia.....exhausting but worth it). Antigua and Tortola were enjoyed on foot, walking and shopping about town. All 4 islands were beautiful and not intimidating for roamers. However, Grenada was abit overwhelming....the island was hit hard by Hurricane Ivan and has not made many repairs. The people are somewhat aggressive making it difficult to walk around comfortably.
The weather was perfect....the seas calm.... Barring a brief, unexpected blackout while at sea, it probably couldn't have been better.
Although anyone can find fault with something.....we achieved the R & R we sought in great style. Give this one a try....I think you'll be glad you did.
