The Causes Of Snoring

The first is related to weight and lifestyle.
Overweight people have a higher tendency for snoring than others.
This is further complicated with the fact that most people work odd hours and they have no time to exercise or to maintain proper sleep patterns.
Lack of exercise leads to obesity and muscle weakness and also increases risk of hypertension and cardiac problems.
Extra weight results in excess fat in the neck area and this blocks the passage of air when the person is asleep.
People with irregular sleep routines also have a higher incidence of snoring.
It is well observed in the medical field that having a set sleep routine results in lower incidence of snoring.
The second biggest known causes of snoring are smoking and alcohol consumption.
Smoking results in nasal congestion that causes snoring.
This happens because smoking causes the smoker's body to produce excessive mucus that blocks the air passages.
Consuming alcohol or taking sleeping pills also causes snoring.
Since both these are central nervous system depressants they cause the muscles in the body to go slack.
When this happens in the jaw and neck the result is snoring.
The third reason for snoring is incorrect sleeping posture.
Since most people are used to sleeping on their back it often causes snoring.
Lying on the back causes the jaw to go slack and the tongue to lapse into the throat.
Both block air passage and produce the snoring sound.
The obvious solution to this problem is to sleep sideways or on your stomach.
Another thing is to elevate the bed on the side of the head.
By raising the head you relive the pressure on the airway resulting in easier breathing and hence lowered chance of snoring.
Respiratory problems and nasal congestions are also causes of snoring.
These can be treated with drops or sprays.
